 Active Schools Week – Wednesday

 GAA

On Wednesday 23rd May Darragh Foley from the Carlow county football team came to our school to play gaelic football with us. We did drills and played five – a – side matches. Everyone learnt lots of skills and Darragh gave us lots of tips and advice on how to improve our game. Everyone had lots of fun.

Bowls

On Wednesday 23rd May all the classes were playing bowls with Ballon Bowls Club. We played in the hall with four lovely members of the bowls club. First they showed us how to hold the ball properly and then how to roll it towards the small white ball at the end of the long green mat. The aim of the game is to hit the small white ball or to get as close to it as you can. We were in teams of 4 – 8 aand we each threw the ball twice. We enjoyed it very much because it was fun and exciting to see who was going to win. We hope the bowls club wil come again.

Tag Rugby

On Tuesday 22nd of May 1st, 3rd and 4th class played tag rugby with Vinny Mahon from Tullow RFC. We all enjoyed playing rugby games like ‘hot potato donkey’ and ‘piggy in the middle’ with the rugby ball. We really enjoyed the match. Nearly everyone scored a try.

By 3rd class.

Karate

On Tuesday 22nd of May Noel Amond from Ballon Karate Club came and showed us some karate moves. We attacked people and they had to learn how to get up. We covered our faces and we attacked their legs with our legs and turned over and they were down and we were up. At the end we were boxing and kicking. We all bowed at the end. We learnt a Japanese word – yemie – which means stop. We loved karate.

Rounders

On Monday 21st of May 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class played rounders for Active Schools Week. We got split into two groups. We played different games with different coaches.

One group played rounders and the other group played a running and throwing game.

Each group switched over after a while. Both of the games were lots of fun.

Rounders is a very fun and sporty game and everyone should play rounders at home.

The more we play rounders the better we will get at it.

We would all like to play rounders again.
